We are organizing a JavaScript weekend for female presenters. Invitations are limited to women who present at web development conferences, or would present at web development conferences if they felt more comfortable with their skill level.  While some of us will be improving our javascript skills, if the below seems like stuff you thoroughly understand, you won't be bored. The hope is that by the end of the workshop you not only feel comfortable enough to say you know it, but you can explain. Plus, we'll have conversations about women and presenting: how to get speaking opportunities, how to get more women to speak, how to get more women to jump from being a 'web master' to a UI engineer, etc.

Topics covered include, but are not limited to:

Object-Oriented JavaScript

 - What is an object?

 - The Object object

 - Object literals

 - Closures/Anonymous Functions

DOM/BOM

 - OO in the DOM

 - Performance and the UI thread (why DOM operations take more time)

 - setTimeout()/setInterval() - how they work

 -shadowDOM and CSSDOM

Tools

 - JSLint

 - Testing Suites

Best Practices

 - Globals and code management

 - Namespaces

We anticipate that there will be 6 sessions: 30 minutes of instructions followed by 30 minutes of implementation. Please bring your laptops, power chords and a power strip.

This event is organized for women by women, trans inclusive, but all genders are welcome. If you don't identify as female, and want to join in, please bring along someone who does. Our goal is to get more women to be confident in their programming skills.
